PROGRAMS
The Child Sexual Assault Programs of Okaloossa and Walton Counties are
funded by the two counties to assist local law enforcement agencies with
cases where abuse is suspected by stranger, neighbor, friend, juvenile
or anyone who is not in a caretaker role. Services are available to all
children , up to age 18, at no cost to the family.
Never Shake A Baby Prevention Program, funded by Family Preservation
and Family Support, provides a hospital based prevention program for new
parents. The program also provides educational classes to area high schools
and community groups.
The Extended Assessment Program is a new program for child abuse
victims. The assessment allows a child to disclose abuse over a period
of time in a non-threatening environment. Information is collected regarding
the child's psychological functioning in order to make a recommendations
for treatment and referral. [ Top

TRAINING
Program Expansion: The Child Protection Team of Okallosa and Walton counties
has experienced much growth in the past year. The team expanded from serving
only children who were abused by a caretaker, to serving children in both
counties who are abused by non-caretakers. Both Oskaloosa and Walton counties
funded non-caretakers child sexual assault programs in 1997-98. Both programs
were refunded for the 1998-99 year. In addition, the team received a Victims
of Crime Act (VOCA) grant for the 1998-99 year. This grant provides extended
assessments of children who have reported to be sexually abused, but who
have not made a full disclosure of the abuse. [ Top
